BB wants probe into Rauf’s ‘escape’
Staff Reporter | December 17, 2007
ISLAMABAD: PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto has expressed shock over the 'escape' of Rashid Rauf and demanded a probe into the matter. Rashid Rauf, arrested last year on suspicion of plotting to blow up a transatlantic airplane, fled away from police custody after a court hearing. In a statement, Benazir said disappearance of a terror suspect had not only embarrassed the country but also raised serious questions. She said the political detainees had been produced in courts in armored vehicles and it was surprising a terror suspect was apparently handled so leniently. She demanded a judicial probe and a parliamentary inquiry into the mysterious disappearance or 'escape' of Rashid Rauf.
