Airports to relax restrictions on plane hand luggage
November 2, 2006
AIRPORT security restrictions will be relaxed from Monday to allow passengers to carry small amounts of liquid on flights.
The Department for Transport has said passengers will be able to carry liquids as long as they are in containers no larger than 100ml and which are enclosed in transparent plastic bags.
It means toiletries such as toothpaste and aftershave will be permitted in carry-on bags for the first time since 10 August, when authorities foiled an apparent plot to blow up passenger flights between Britain and the United States. Passengers will still be allowed to buy drinks and other liquids at shops beyond security checkpoints.
• A judge yesterday found there was "insufficient" evidence for a trial of two brothers charged in connection with the alleged airliner bomb plot. Mehran Hussain, 24, and Umair Hussain, 25, both of London, were discharged following a committal hearing at the City of Westminster Magistrates' Court.
They had been accused of failing to disclose information about their brother Nabeel, a suspect in the case.
