Pak plans massive security for Bhutto

KARACHI: Pakistan will deploy 3,500 police and paramilitary troops to guard former prime minister Benazir Bhutto when she returns within days amid Islamic extremists’ threats to her life, an official said on Saturday.
The elaborate security arrangements are being made after a court ruled that Bhutto - who faces threats from pro-Taliban Islamic militants - be provided maximum protection, the official said on condition of anonymity, citing policy.
Security personnel will be deployed at Karachi International Airport and along roads where Bhutto is expected to lead a rally, the official said. “The police and rangers will take over all along the roads from the airport to where the rally leads,” the official said.
