Bhutto now can't leave Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (UPI) — Pakistan Tuesday ordered former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto to remain in the country just days after she returned from an exile of nine years.

Leaders of Bhutto's Pakistan People's Party said the word on the travel ban came down from the Interior Ministry, the BBC reported.

Bhutto has been a leading critic of the Pakistani government; however she is also expected to work in concert with the regime.

The BBC said it wasn't unusual for government opponents to be barred from leaving the country.

Bhutto's triumphant return to Pakistan last week was marred by a bombing that killed nearly 140 well-wishers. Blame has been pinned on both Islamic rebels and members of the government.
