ISLAMABAD -- Pakistani jets pounded militant hideouts in the tribal area of North Waziristan for a third day Tuesday, killing around 50 militants and injuring a similar number, security officials told AFP.

“Reports from the area indicate that the strike was successful and around 50 militants are killed and there are an equal number injured,” said a security official based in Peshawar.

The army confirmed that it had launched air strikes near Mir Ali, the second biggest town in North Waziristan, but said it did not have more details.

Around 150 militants and 45 soldiers have died since Sunday, it said earlier.
