ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) set up a special fund on Tuesday for victims of the attack on the rally in Karachi on October 18. Around 140 people were killed and 500 injured in the attack.

“A special account has been opened in United Bank Limited, Clifton Branch, for this purpose, on the directives of Benazir Bhutto,” said PPP leader Aftab Shaban Mirani in a statement issued by the party’s media centre.

He said donations, to be exclusively used for the rehabilitation of the October 18 blast victims, could be deposited in Account No 010-5801-5 UBL, Clifton Branch (0949), Karachi.

Commonwealth Secretary General Don McKinnon on Tuesday sent a personal message to Benazir Bhutto, expressing shock over the Karachi tragedy, and relief that Benazir escaped unhurt.
