‘Benazir should not promote foreign agenda’

Staff Report | October 23, 2007

LAHORE: Law Minister Basharat Raja has said that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairwoman Benazir Bhutto should not promote any ‘foreign agenda’ and stop accusing politicians of other parties of involvement in the blasts on her welcoming procession in Karachi on October 18.

He said PPP leaders had left their supporters dying after the explosions to appear in television interviews and news bulletins.

He said that the people’s criticism had forced the PPP leadership to visit the injured people in the hospitals of Karachi. The PPP chief who has got billions of rupees waived off under the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) is giving the families of the blasts victims only Rs 5,000 as compensation, he added.

‘Govt warned BB of possible attack’: Communications and Works Minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid-e-Azam (PML-Q) general secretary Chaudhry Zaheeruddin said in a press statement on Monday that the government had advised Bhutto to postpone her return due to the possible terrorist threats, but she insisted otherwise.

He said PPP chairwoman had been leveling baseless allegations on the Chaudhrys.

He said PPP leadership could visualise defeat of her party in the Punjab. Bhutto had started the regional politics, which was dangerous for the country and for her party, he added.

‘Its difficult for PPP to find candidates’: Agriculture minister Arshad Khan Lodhi said it was difficult for the PPP to find candidates for the general elections, as politicians were “reluctant to join a loser party”.

He said, “Bhutto wants to share power without contesting the elections.” In a press statement on Monday, he said PPP chief’s return had been tragic for the country.
