October 10, 2006

ISLAMABAD: Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, Minister for Interior has said until complete proofs are found no allegations can be levied against any country regarding the Russian made rockets found in the Federal Capital adding that the investigations are underway on various aspects.

Talking to media persons at an Iftar-dinner hosted in honor of journalists here in the federal capital on Monday he said the security in the capital has been beefed up and along with the local police three thousand personnel of Frontier Constabulary and Rangers are performing their duties at vital places and important buildings.

He said the peace deal in Waziristan has turned out to be a symbol of peace. In Balochistan the areas of Dera Bugti and Kohlu are reverting towards peace and there is decrease in armed resistance. In addition to that political process has started in the area.

State Minister for Education, Anisa Zeb Tahir Kheli was also present on the occasion.

Aftab Sherpao said an extradition treaty has been signed with Britain and work is continuing on it. Interrogations are taking place with Rashid Rauf and investigation agencies are interrogating him.

In reference to the recovery of rockets, he said the objective was to create panic and fear. Preliminary investigations reveal that the rockets are of the Soviet-Afghan war era and have been smuggled from Afghanistan.

The Federal Minister said in important areas of the capital including the Margalla Hills special search operation is being conducted and for that matter special contingents of FC and Rangers have been appointed.

He said in Balochistan action was taken out against Ferraris and that cannot be called a military operation as mostly paramilitary forces took part in the action. The situation is improving now and the Ferraris are surrendering.
