Wasti flays Durrani`s charge sheet against Bugti

September 4, 2006

RAWALPINDI: Syed Kabir Ali Wasti central Vice President PML has flayed the charge sheet issued by the Information Minister Mohammed Ali Durrani against late Nawab Bugti and other Baloch nationalist leaders.

Breaking his long silence in a statement on Monday, he termed silence at this critical juncture of the national history as a crime.

He asked Durrani not to repeat blunders of leveling false charges against political leaders and recalled that leveling of similar charges against Sheikh Mujibur Rehman had led to dismembering of former East Pakistan and baseless charges against Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto had damaged national interests.

He said the so-called fact sheet was neither submitted before the PML central committee nor the Cabinet. He said PML has nothing to do with killing of Nawab Bugti in military action, as the party, its leadership and the Chief Minister were never consulted.

’Rather recommendations made by the PML President Ch. Shujaat Hussain and General Secretary Mushahid Hussain Syed stressing solution of the issue through talks and peaceful ways and means were not implemented and put in cold storage.

PML leader said all decisions were taken from somewhere else and PML offices were being set in fire in the province without any fault.

He said the PML was unanimously supporting the stance taken by Ch. Shujaat and Mushahid Hussain on Balochistan situation. ’Being a political party we can’t support the wrong stance taken by the information minister’ he added.

He termed the stance taken by Ch. Shujaat Hussain in a meeting in Murree chaired by President Gen. Musharraf as very bold. Wasti stressed that polarization and confrontation should not be raised. Rather wounds should be heeled to save the integrity and solidarity of the federation of Pakistan.

He said ministers shouldn’t add fuel to the fire, and they should not raise controversies, particularly when Prime Minister was on foreign tour.

PML leader appealed people of Punjab to condemn killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti and save the Federation instead of remaining silent spectators.

He recalled that late Nawab Bugti had never rejected idea of talks. Rather he had proposed a committee comprising Ch. Shujaat, Mushahid and senior columnists Irshad Haqqani and Ayaz Amir and vowed to accept their decision.

PML leader appealed the Supreme Court to take suo moto notice of Bugti’s killing.

He also demanded a probe to expose those elements, which sabotaged implementations on recommendations of Ch. Shujaat and Mushahid Hussain.

He also demanded withdrawal of the military to its barracks in the country particularly in Balochistan.

Wasti sympathized with families of the military officers, martyred in the operation and paid rich tributes as they laid down their lives while performing their sacred duties. He stressed reconciliation is need of the hour and dialogue should be initiated with Baloch leaders to save the Federation.

Qureshi asks SC to take suo motto action on Bugti’s killing

Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Deputy Secretary General Peoples Party Parliamentarians and Member National Assembly MNA accusing the government of mishandling the issues by conducting military operation in Balochistan demanded of the Supreme Court to take suo motto action to inquire into the killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti.

Speaking at a crowded press conference at his residence here on Monday, Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi demanded immediate halt of military operation and solution of the issues through political process of dialogue.

Makhdoom Qureshi urged the apex court to take suo motto action to inquire about the killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti and apprise the public of the facts.

He said that the way the situation in Balochistan is rapidly deteriorating the people of the country and all political parties except PML-Q its allies and political leadership all are deeply concerned.

All those decisions that are supposed to be taken in the assembly are being made outside it. The members of PML-Q are themselves questioning the Prime Minister and they demand a satisfactory explanation from PM Shaukat Aziz.

He said that the present assembly has lost its effectiveness. Today the time is not of saving the assemblies but of saving the country.

Shah Mehmood said that I will suggest my party leadership to get its members resign from the present assemblies. He further said that the current circumstances puts the security of the country under jeopardy. He said being a representative from Punjab I believe that Punjab has to play its role in the current circumstances as presently Balochi, Sindhi and Pathan say that they are fighting for provincial autonomy and rights.

He said that Nawab Akbar Bugti was a great patriotic leader of Pakistan and believed in Federation and Pakistan. his party supported federation.

The opposition leader said that today all political parties including ARD, MMA, PONAM, 4-Party Alliance, Awami National Party ANP and Tehreek-e-Insaaf agree at saving the country.

The speech made by CM Punjab in Murree was condemnable and the CM by issuing such statements is distancing provinces from center and weakening the federation.

He said that the religio-political alliance MMA too condemned the extra-judicial killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti. Mehmood Qureshi further said that the government must contact the political leadership sitting abroad immediately for controlling the situation in Balochistan. He demand that the issues discussed between Chaudhry Shujaat and Shahid Hussain Bugti should be made public.

In response to a query Mehmood Qureshi said that we are not playing in the hands of MMA nor MMA is a toy with whom we should play. He said that between MMA and us there can be difference of opinion but on restoration of democracy and constitution in the country and on establishment of independent Election Commission and interim government there is complete agreement.
