Brothers in court over 'air plot'

BBC News | September 19, 2006

Two brothers charged in connection with an alleged airliner bomb plot have appeared in court accused of failing to disclose information about suspects.

Mehran Hussain, 23, appeared in person at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court, while Umair Hussain, 24, appeared via video link from prison.

A third suspect, Cossor Ali, 24, who is also accused of failing to disclose information, did not appear in person.

A 17-year-old, also arrested over the alleged plot, appeared via video link.

Terror charges

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is being held at Woodhill Prison and faces two charges under Section 57 and Section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

It is alleged he possessed a manual on improvised explosive devices, a map of Afghanistan and a number of suicide wills from people prepared to commit terrorist acts.

Cossor Ali, a mother-of-one, who was legally represented, had her case put back until 29 September, when she will appear by video link before being further remanded into custody until 17 October.

Mrs Ali, of Walthamstow, east London, is accused of failing to disclose information about her husband Abdul Ali.

He is among 11 defendants accused of conspiracy to murder and preparing an act of terrorism.

Mehran and Umair Hussain both of Chingford, east London, are charged with failing to disclose information about their brother Nabeel.

Both cases were put back to 12 October for an expected committal hearing.

Nabeel Hussain is another of the 11 men charged with conspiracy to murder and preparing an act of terrorism in relation to the alleged plot.
