U.S. Bashed By Castro At Nonaligned Movement Summit

Havana, Cuba (AHN) - Despite the noticeable absence of ailing Fidel Castro, Cuba, under the interim leadership of Raul Castro, assumed leadership of the Nonaligned Movement summit.

As a first order of business, Raul Castro spoke out against the United States at the Summit, saying that the country has "irrational pretensions for world dominance."

AP notes that Castro chastised the country's policies saying, "When there no longer is a Cold War, the United States spends one billion dollars a year in weapons and soldiers and it squanders a similar amount in commercial publicity."

He continues, "To think that a social and economic order that has proven unsustainable could be maintained by force is simply an absurd idea."

The summits participants will remain under the leadership of Cuba, but there are some concerns about the country's ability to lay the groundwork towards achieving globalization, without its true leader.
